I have been told that the above motor is not a good choice, it is made in mexico and is not reliable. I have been told that yamaha or honda is a far better motor. if anyone has this motor please let me know what type of trobles you are having or how it performs. I just bought a used one and if it is going to be a problem i will sell it or trade it. thanks.

Howdy, dayjjj.

Welcome to iboats. :)

Well, you hear all kinds of "that is no good" bull about anything you ask about. There are a lot of know-it-alls who know little or nothing in this field.

The Johnny 9.9 has been in production for about 30 years and has an excellent reputation. There is no valid reason to be suspicious of it just because it is assembled in Mexico.

...being an owner of two Evinrude 15's, a 1974 and 1997(basically the same engine), I can attest to their reputation of being nothing less than excellent motors.

Many engines are now being assembled in Mexico such as the Chevy inboards, and even some Volkswagen cars. Quite a bit of our car electronics(especially GM cars) come from there as well... The quality is still there.

Although I am a big Honda fan for four strokes(a Civic car owner and Honda ATV owner), as far as two stroke engines go, I am extremely pleased with my Johnnyrudes.
