This sounds like the original cause of failure was not addressed, is the piston damaged from preignition or detonation? Was ignition system checked and carbs rebuilt? The oiling system cannot damage just one cylinder. If the sides of piston are scuffed and piston crown is ok and extremly clean you could have a bad block leaking water into cylinder. This was a known problem on the V-6 loopers and a few V-4 engines, the leak comes from a glue seam from when they made the engine block.
