My friend has a 2001 Larson 19' bow rider with a burned up 4.3 v6. The boat itself is in great condition except some mildew on the interior. He had someone take the engine apart and found the block is cracked. What value would this boat have?

Not much. But it depends on the location and the actual condition of the boat.

Even in pristine condition I wouldn't pay over $1500 and that is absolute top dollar with a cracked block, because I know that I am going to have to put $1800 in repairs in a $3000 boat

Because when I hear mildewed interior and cracked block most likely freeze damage this time of year then its an instant red flag that there is a serious lack of maintenance on the boat.

Boat motors don't usually just burn up, its usually either lack of oil changes, not changing the water pump, or not properly winterizing.

Some photos would help, and it depends on your local market. It is really impossible to give an accurate estimate without more information.

Is this just a hull, or a hull and trailer? Is it structurally sound, with good carpeting/flooring/seats? Is the engine and outdrive still in place? What is the condition of the outdrive? Are the controls still in good shape? Are there locally available replacement motors for a reasonable price? Has the boat been babied and well cared for, or left out in the elements to deteriorate?

I did a quick search for 2001 Larson LXI190s, and the asking price for good used running boats is anywhere between $8 and $20k ($20k sounds substantially too high for a 13 year old bow rider).

Typically, however, 13 year old boats with no power plants have little value. If you had a decent runnning motor to put into it, that worked with the existing controls and outdrive, it might be worth $1000 (and there are users here who would say that is too high...)

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,... After ya figure in a $3,000.00+ for the motor replacement,....
Not much,...

If yer turnin' yer own wrenches, ya might bring that number down abit,...

If yer Payin' for labor,.... Double it,....

The wife actually ran the boat into a sandbar and diddnt let off plugging it with sand therefore burning up the engine. Its been sitting for 3 years with a cover on it hence the mildew. Other than that it is in really good condition. We are just north of Houston TX.

Also, make sure the boat was not kept in the water for extended periods. The Larson has a VEC hull, and is prone to blistering if left in the water without a barrier coat and bottom paint.

If the trailer is in good shape maybe $500. The cost of replacement power is more than the value of the boat.

Looking on-line similiar boats are listed at $8-10,000. A rebuilt long block from Rapido Marine is under $2000 with shipping. If I spend on the high end another $1000 on parts and turn the wrenches myself I think its still a good buy at $2500. Am I not seeing something clearly? Your opinions are valued. At least valued at what I'm paying for them. Thanks.

Ok so if you pay $2500+$2000 for a long block, +$1,000= $5500 but that is before you get into trailer maintenance and repair. Plus if the carpet is mildewed who knows what needs to be done with that.

If it was beached that hard and basically rammed into a sandbar, are you sure the structure isn't damaged?

The question is how much is your time worth.

Sorry I don't see more than $1500.00

Your friend did not think it was worth repairing when it got wrecked...
Just saying.
