I'm having a problem with my 150 merc cutting out after about half hour of running. It won't give me any throttle. It stays running and when I stop the engine it starts everytime but won't throttle up. After about half hour when the engine cools down, it runs fine for about the same amount of time then throttle cuts off again. What's up????????

not to familiar with this engine but could possibly be a spark issue, a failing electrical component when hot?, you might check spark with a timing light when it acts up again when your out.

thanks for the reply!

the spark plugs are brand new and the sparks were looked at. As for the electrical component, is there any in particular that are prone to failing when hot that cause the engine not to shut down but idle?

Could it possibly be a bad ECM? (ouch)

try to find out if any cylinders aren't firing, an easy way of doing this is to bring a timing light with you, went it bogs down clamp on the spark plug wires (one at a time)and see if its got spark, then you can troubleshoot further if you have verified a faulty or non existent spark.

another great tool is a heat sensor. point and shoot and find the cold cyl (s)
