Dcoy2,

Try one more thing before you take it to another mechanic. Look at the gasket between your carb and the engine. Make sure there are 2 holes, one for the fuel/air, and one for the vacuum for the fuel pump. The second hole is smaller and off to the side of the venturi hole. I covered mine up when I rebuilt the carb and the kit didn't include a manifold gasket. I bought gasket material from NAPA and cut out my own. I didn't see the small hole. laddies pointed out my problem and I've been out just about everyday since.

try usuing your hose connected directly to the fuel pump inlet bypassing the quick connect fitting and filter assy. if it runs back up to the filter assy. if it still runs you will know its the conector on the engine side. they fail occasionally. by manually pumping the fuel primer bulb your hand is acting like a pump. either your sucking air, a physical restricion or your pump diaphram is not working correctly.

rodbolt may be on to something. I had a similar problem, and it was caused by air being sucked in at the connector. (I bought the connector "new" off eBay and it was junk.) The motor would start and run as long as I kept pumping the bulb, then stall--and the bulb went soft when it did (which indicates fuel was being pulled from the line). I put a genuine Merc connector on and the problem went away.

Jeff
