2001 Mercury 250hp EFI

looking at a boat with a 2001 Mercury 250hp EFI. bought new in '02 and supposedly has only 12 hrs on it. never owned a merc. any opinions/advice on this engine? any known problems with this model or year? any things to look at?<br /><br />thanks-<br /><br />also- what would be the cost difference btw the same year 250hp efi and a 225 optimax. which engine would you prefer?

a search under "250 EFI" has 44 posts you can read.<br />I don't seem to remember alot of problems, but<br />don't think many folks here have these big monsters.<br />good luck,<br />M.Y.

no Matt, send the boat up here for a couple weeks<br />and I'll give it a thorough testing <br />again, I don't think many have any experiences to<br />share on this motor. try the racing guys over at:<br /> http://forums.screamandfly.com
