Ahhh -- the old disconnect the alarm trick. Guess that wasn't such a good idea huh? Nor was failure to check oil level in the tank. All cylinders would not necessarily begin to fail at the same time. It all depends on how the carbs were set and how tough the components in that cylinder were compared to the others and how hot each cylinder was before things began to melt. .

And having the Pistons look good from the view through the exhaust port doesn't tell the whole story. My son ran straight gas (no oil) though his one time, he thought it was OK and that he'd dodged a bullet, next time out the crank bearings failed, pistons still looked good.

I had the carbs all evenly set, little over 1.5 turns out. Thinking about doing at least the tear down myself to see how much damage there is, then go from there. We had put a quart in earlier in the day, which made us think we were ok (still no excuse). However, we filled up the oil reservoir when it began knocking/losing power before we realized it was seized, and when i got it back home it was about half full, slow leak in the bottom connection i think.

The adjustment screw has no affect high speed, it only works at idle and slightly above, and having them all the same at 1.5 is just a starting point, you may need to go a little either way to get it dialed in, not that it matters now though.

Leaks happen, too late to worry about it now, on to the next step.
