Hi All,

I'm just beginning to do my research and develop a sequential methodical troubleshooting plan.

But my basic question is this...My Check lite was coming on as many others do, at higher rpm..then eventually at lower rpm, and go out.

At one point with the motor OFF, turning the key to on (without starting or cranking motor), the System Check did its normal full 4 lites, and turned them off one at-a-time (normal sequence), THEN set the Check Engine light.

Again, the above was done several times as that was baffleing me. engine not running, the pre-check sequence validated, then the check light illuminated!

With this light setting at times, with no motor running...does this point to a connection issue or bad Vacuum switch? Yes this was happening at speed and different rpm's....but also with motor NOT running.

Thanks...

PS....Twins motors...only one acting up. seperate lines, pickups, filters--common tank. Going to run motor directly on 6gal portable initially. Also going to install Vacuum guages off each filter to see what its reading and go from there.

Sounds like a decent plan. Those guages go bad. Only ever replaced a couple of vacuum switches, both were the gray ones. Problem with this method is running with a fuel restriction, if that's what it is, will do bad damage. Probably best just to replace all the fuel lines and anti-siphon valves and call it PM. Then trouble shoot from there.

Thanks Jakedaawg.

good advise...I replaxed the tank myself this spring and a a shop rearrange pickup and fill ports.

While they said they rinsed it and pressureized it...since there are 3 baffles in the tank, im suspecious slag/alum bits from it are in that pickup. I did use the screens in the tubes.

Vacuum gauges between engines and filters should show that easily enough.

Yea, wont run it hard if it is a valid condition.

Thanks

Wouldn't the light indicate there is a fault recorded in the EMM memory?

You might pull the check engine alarm wiring off the vacuum switch and see if the alarm goes away. If not, it points to the signal wire grounding somewhere. If the alarm goes away, it points to a bad vacuum switch,
