2001 Suzuki DF60 Tilt Trim Still Not Working

Recently I posted about my tilt/trim going up but not down. The relay was clicking but no movement.

So I swapped the blue and green wires (up and down) and press up, the motor goes down just as it should to indicate a bad down relay. Press down, and no movement up (but clicking, just as before).

After spending $109 on a new factory relay, installing it and putting the blue and green wires back correctly, the motor goes up and not down. My initial problem  So what could possibly be the problem??? Please help, my mind is baffled. Down switch doesn't work and relay clicking, I would think the down relay is bad, how bout you? I would not think a bad relay from the factory.

Unfortunately I already destroyed the old down relay, so swapping it with the up relay is not possible.

The ground circuit in the up relay had failed, so when you activated the down relay the motor was only getting + power, but no ground.

$109 lesson.

You are correct and yes a $109 lesson, thank you for your input. I will never tear anything apart again until the new one is installed and working. I really just wanted to get inside of it and clean the bad connection to see if I could make it work again, but they made that impossible because when it comes apart, it breaks.

Why in the world do they have to complicate something so simple. Seems like if the motor will not move down = bad down relay, but no, they have to tie it in to the up relay and use it for the ground.

It has to be that way in order to make the motor spin in the opposite direction. It's actually quite simple once you understand how it works.

Re: 2001 Suzuki DF115 Tilt Trim

My 2001 DF115 is not working as well

motor runs but will not go up and down
had engine serviced and shop said need to replace unit

I maunally tilted it up blocked it and saw no obvious problems
removed block and tried to tilt up run not movement

hit the down button and it move forward/down about an inch

Any ideas on rebuild?
Thanks

Re: 2001 Suzuki DF115 Tilt Trim

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I am trying to diagnose what appears to be the exact same problem on a friends DF60. The motor tilts up fine, but relays only click with no movement when pressing the down button. Swapping the green and blue wires between the 2 relays makes the motor move down when hitting the up button, but only clicks when hitting the down button. A test light reveals positive output from both relays but I am not sure how to check for a lost ground in this situation.

Is my understanding correct in that the up relay grounds through the down relay, and the down relay grounds through the up relay? So, if we have positive output from both relays, and we can make the tilt motor function in both directions by swapping the wires, is it safe to assume that we have lost ground in the up relay causing the down relay to not work? How can one test for this to verify?
