Iboaters,

I've noticed that there is a fairly deep hole, about 0.10" in dia x ~0.25" deep on the port side of my lower gearcase housing (see photos).

Is this a corrosion pit?!? It isn't a designed/functional feature that I can leave alone, is it?

Assuming that it is a corrosion pit and needs to be plugged, how would you suggest going about doing so? Epoxy? Welding a plug in (I would need to take it to someone to do so)?SX-M_RUST-PIT.jpg

Thanks,

Joe

DO NOT weld the hole up. It's a cavity drain so water that get into it will drain out when out of the water.
There is just corrosion around it. Clean it up, prime and paint the area, but keep the drain open.

Hi guys,

Can I ask a quick related question, is this the only cavity drain on the sx-m stern drive? if not where is the plug for the drain?
