Looking to sell my Yamaha 8hp and downsize to a 2016 6hp. I had always assumed it was a short shaft o/b. Then looking at it closer what do ya know it's a long shaft based on the "L" in the model #. OK that's all fine, however when I go to measure the shaft length from transom bracket to cavitation plate it measures a solid 23". I was kinda surprised that it's closer to a XL shaft std than L shaft std length.
Are Yamaha's typically that much longer than the std 20" in their long shaft outboards?
