'new to me' 2001 Yamaha TLRZ 2-stroke oil injected. When rigging this engine to my whaler, we used a new 704 controller and cables, secured the shifter and throttle cable ends to the controller first, and then adjusted the engine ends so that they slipped onto the posts with no tension at all either way. I must be missing something. the warm idle is at about 700 rpm, but when shifting out of neutral into either forward or reverse there is nothing smooth about it. Its enough just going to clutch to have people in the boat not holding on to go toppling all about. I'm thinking that maybe the throttle cable is not adjusted right? Allowing the throttle to start opening too soon in the motion of the controller. should there be a little tension either in or out on the throttle cable when in neutral? I have not been able to locate directions for cable adjustment for this engine beyond the basic install that was with the controller. A point in the right direction would be appreciated.
