Just replaced drive belt thanks to everyone here. Super simple and now have one in the glove box just in case...thanks again

So I have a 2002 bayliner classic with a 2002 3.0 mercruiser with a alpha one. She starts every time and runs good most of the time on the water but about twice on the last couple of times out it would not go more than 10 mph for a about 5 or 10 minutes. (2 of the 4 times had a skier on the line) not running hot and has fresh gas. Also the last time I went out she started right up and when I gave it gas in neutral it sputtered a little bit in-lieu of reving but did not cut out and was fine when I put it into gear.

where should I start first? filters? thanks for any help you can give

I ordered the paper filter for the fuel pump. Mercruiser part #803897Q1....where do I find the part number for the filter in the carburetor? I don't see a filter in the mercury parts catalog? is it the strainer? my engine serial number is 0M336627.

thanks again for your help

I am told by the local (3 hours away) mercruiser dealer that the filter on the fuel line going into the carb is cleanable. I know mine was. Super easy to change/clean (preferably change).

Yes, you can remove it and clear it out with carb cleaner. Or new are cheap too. To look up the part # put your motor info in here
https://webapps.brunswick.com/literature/literatureSearch.do
and find the appropriate page view. Or just go to the top of the Iboats page and go by model or part #.

The Mercury site is where I went to find the filter in the carb but, there is not a part labeled as a filter. See the attachment. Are you refering to the strainer listed as item 4 - part #53336Q?

thanks for the help. What's the best place to order parts online for quality and quick delivery? Funny I tried to order the fuel filter on iboats to "pay it forward" and it was out of stock

Re: 2002 - 3.0 Mercruiser Alpha 1 slugish throttle at times

Crazy update. So I change the fuel filter under the fuel pump first and then take off the flame arrestor to take a look at the carb before I change the one in the fuel line and notice that one of the plastic tabs broke off from the cover and is laying inside the carb. See the attached pics...you have to blow up the pic to see it on the right side I feel pretty stupid for not removing the flame arrestor last week. so i use a pair of needle nose pliers to remove the piece of plastic but, still notice a few shavings of plastic laying in the carb. So was that my problem all along? and whats the best way to remove the shavings. I dont want to start it up in fear of doing any damage? thanks for your help.

So I need to order a new flame arrestor 4 sure and my part is the one with the molded hose retainer #863200 but it seems to be a cheap piece of plactic since a large piece ended up in the carb. the parts catalog lists #805016A1 as a replacement as well but it has a seperate retainer that is no longer made. The 1st one is $115 and Mallory makes one thats $70 thats looks like it has a retainer that will work?
