2002 90 TRLA
A couple days after my last outing, I noticed oil on the ground below the motor. I removed the engine cover to discover it was injection oil that appeared to leak out into the the lower engine cowling eventually draining down the outside all the way to the prop and dripping off the skeg. I suspected the oil reservoir had leaked from below, but when I removed it for closer inspection, I found that it appeared o.k. I am now concerned that it may be leaking from the oil pump located just below and slightly behind the reservoir (I assume that is the oil pump!). A quick talk at the boat store, the tech told me it could have leaked from around the sender cap. This is where the present oil level is (~ 1/3 full). I believe it was just above that level prior to my last outing and there is evidence of oil from that area on the outside of the reservoir however the cap seemed secure to me. The motor only has 23 hours on it with no problems to date, so before I send it in for service, I wanted to know if someone else has seen this and what the cause and cure may be. I guess what I am concerned about is knowing how likely it may be an oil pump problem over just a loose reservoir cap at the sender unit?

wello
unless the bleed screw is loose or missng I doubt you have a pump problem, could have a line problem with a missing or improperly install clamp. or it could be the sensor or cap. they will do it sometimes when tilted. does it leak while trimmed down or just after a trim up?
