:)What a great Forum! I had a question about a Johnson engine a few weeks back, and got some excellent and accurate answers on what was wrong. Problem on that engine is now resolved. My problem now is that I have a 2002 Honda 90 HP 4 stroke that runs fine, but the tach just stopped working last year. Just before it stopped working, it worked erratically, not getting over 1000 rpm's when the motor was turned up higher. Also on another note, the speedometer stopped wrking as well, but I don't think the 2 are related. I am thinking that there may be an obstruction in the tubing, but have not had time to ckeck it out yet. Any ideas?

You are correct about the speedometer. You have an obstruction somewhere. Try removing the hose from the behind the speedometer gauge and then blow out whatever is in there. You can used compressed air if you want. If you store you engine down in the water, the speedometer tube will continue to get clogged.

For the tach, try removing the wire terminals from behind the tach gauge and give them a thorough cleaning. You could have a bad ground somewhere. Also, if your tach has a selector dial on the back, make note of where the dial is pointing and then turn the dial back and forth. Put it back to the position you found it in.

Thanks psteurer, I will give that a try on both items. I did store the boat with the engine down 2 years ago, so maybe that's why the speedometer did not work last season. I have since stopped leaving the enging down in the water. Again thanks for your help!
