Hi, I have a 2002 merc115 hp 4 stroke out board that sputters and runs rough off idle. fuel presure is 39 psi at idle and 45 psi with regulater hose pulled off. TPS is good, coolant sensor ok. while its running rough i spray fuel in to air intake the engine smoots out.I found some water in the filter and cleaned it. plugs are new. Any sugjestions? There is no dealer in my area. I am very familiure with fuel injection systems in cars but this one is a challange.<br />Thanks , Bobby

I have the same engine but not had your problem. One quetion that I have is do you notice water in your engine oil? I have had issues with a water mixture. Mercury has said its a condensation issue but I am finding out it might be a design flaw with that model engine. Something to keep in eye on.

I will check this. I tried changing to another fuel tank and It had no effect. I was thinking maybe an air leak or a controll problem. I also thought maybe there was water in the vapor seperator but you need to remove the intake plenum to get at it.. Ill keep tring.

I have a 2002 115 4 stroke EFI Mecury (It has alot of Yamaha parts i.e. power head) I have also have a problem with water in my engine oil. Mercury has put a high temp thermostat and a new set of plugs along with a new ECU. It came up to about $1500 it is still under warrenty. I have been told by Mercury that up to a cup full of water is within acceptable parameters. I am currently seeking legal representation. I belive there is a design flaw in the power head on all Merc's and Yama's Power heads 115 4 stroke models. They refuse to replace my motor. I will have my day in court and then see what they will do !!!!!

Good luck. The owner of the motor im working on is going to take it to a Merc dealer again. I feel it is a ECU or programing qlitch.
