After impeller change out I can't get Shift Linkage adjusted to find Neutral. Shame on me for not taking a photo before disassembly. Stays in Forward gear. Is the Lower Shaft supposed to be pulled Up or pushed Down in order to get into Neutral from Forward ? What is best position for Brass Shift Linkage Connector Block to be in (ex: 1.25 inches top of Lower Shift Rod to top of Brass Block, etc)? Also does the motor have to be running (i.e. Drive Shaft spinning) to find Neutral from Forward Gear? Thanks in advance...

I honestly didn’t think the merc 3.3 2 stroke had a neutral. Any I’ve known have been direct drive forward only. Perhaps they made one in the later years that had a neutral.
The one I had was I’m sure about late 90’s or about 2000. That was certainly forward only direct drive.

The parts book clearly shows the shift mechanism.
Every day is a school day. I would have bet money on the 3.3 2 stroke being direct drive. And perhaps wondered if it was in fact the 3.5 4 stroke that was being discussed. I have one of these. This has a neutral and a forward.
Edit***just saw that early 2000’s models had a neutral on the 3.3. Fair play. I’d have lost money on that one 😂

Racer, thanks for the input, I adjusted the linkage to get a full downward stroke, it works fine now in Tank Test. Thanks again.
