I would like to hear from anybody out there that may have had a problem with any of the Yamaha 2.6L VMax HPDI starter motors breaking the mounting posts / stanchions that are a part of the main block casting. Mine failed from a fatigue fracture, on the top 2 mounting bolts. The bolts did not fracture, the mounting posts did, near the base of the depth of the mounting bolts. The "Customer Care" representative at Yamaha in Ga. told me that they did not believe that it was possible. I'm a Materials testing applications engineer, and I know fatigue and fracture when I see it. So I told him so. Now I'm going to get pictures of the fix that I had to have done on the casting, and try to find someone in the Yamaha Engineering department to explain to them what's happened. I would like to hear of any other similar circumstances, for documentation. You can contact me at rex.sylvester@mts.com Thanks! Rex Sylvester

only time I have ever seen a boss break was due to loose bolts and I have never seen it on an HPDI.

Like rodbolt, I have seen them broken only because of loose bolts or where a rod or flywheel came loose and got it.
