G'day from Australia, I have a pair of Evinrude 225 FITCH outboards that are just 6 month old and have done just on 80 hours, my problem is that as soon as they hit 80 hours they won't fire, just can't get them started...........the problem, the spark plugs are stuffed, if taken out and regapped they get about another 10 hours at the most. The 100 hour service suddenly becomes an 80 hour service and very costly if you are doing this about every 8 trips out in the boat which can happen with in 1 month! Has anyone come into contact with this problem in these motors or has a solution to this . Thank you for your help.

P.S I am even thinking of changing to the Suzuki 250 HP 4 strokes as I am so annoyed with the Evinrudes!

Hello, I have a 2000 225 Ficht. Every time you change the plugs they need to indexed. That means when they reach the proper torque, the plugs face a certain way..

How do you get the plugs to face the right way. I have tried putting in 3 different plugs in the the same cylinder and all 3 end up facing the wrong way. I was told that the open end of the notch has to be facing the injector.

buy some indexing rings.they are basically just washers of different thicknesses, made to be used on the stock plugs

When you use the indexing washer do you remove the present washer that comes with sparkplug? What size washers should I get. Are they reusable? Where can I buy them? I have a 2002 200HP Fitch that burns thru a set oif plugs every 2 months. I do a lot of idling and my plugs have never indexed correctly but I think these washers might help me.

plugs need indexing, which is not so difficult, but going through plugs that quick seems to indicate something is very wrong there, not too sure what, but they should last ages (mine do)

Never use indexing washers on a fitch!! Go to this link and follow the steps below!!! //www.boatsetup.com/PlgIndex.pdf. If you still foul plugs after idling
you either have engine trim to far tucked under or t-stat problems. Also run the xd-50 oil, as it has additives to clean engine and reduce deposits.
