I have the condition listed above. Boat sat 2 years and I just got it running. Was dissappointed with P/S. Hard to steer with one hand, esp with docking. Unhooked cable and it turns very easy so that rules out the rack and cable. I'm comparing it to my VP 280DPS I used to have which would steer with one finger just like a car.

Question is, is Merc P/S not as good? Should it steer as easy as the VP? Are there inherent problems that could steer me in the right direction? Obviousl stuff is fine....pump, fluid, hoses, etc and it does work, just not up to expectations....

Thanks in advance for any product help here from a guy that works on these all the time.

Ayuh,.... My guess is,... You've got corrosion, Inside the aluminum tube, at the transom...

Pull the cable out, 'n clean it, then Grease it....
