Hi all,

I can buy a repoed 2003 Tahoe Q7 with a 5.0L Merc. on a trailer for 13,000.00. The boat has low hours and is in very good shape. I have been doing some research on Tahoe's seeing how I have never heard of them. Does anyone have experience with these boats? Good or Bad. Specifically does anyone own the Q7, which is 21 feet. I will be using it on a large lake so I could encounter some rough water. With a 5.0L I would expect this boat to do about 45-50 mph.

Any input would be appreciated.

-Craig

I had a Tracker (same company) but never owned a Tahoe. Should do 50 easy. I like the design of the Q7, dunno how their ride compares. Not a boat you will find a lot of listings for, so kinda hard to pin down the value. But your price is well under the few I could find. Tahoe has not been a star player in the JD Power surveys. Some of that may be rummy dealers though.

Kelly Cook

craig-444,

IMHO, Tahoe Boats are generally considered "Value Boats". If the boat is in as good shape as you say, then I would snap it up before someone else does. That is a good price. Most value boats in the 20' to 21' range with a 5.0L sell new for $20K to $25K.

Good Luck.

craig-444,

I have a 2004 Q7 with the 5.0L Merc. I bought it last fall and have had it on the lake about 5 times. So far I don't have any complaints and it handles really well. My Q7 will hit 53MPH with the stock prop and a load of people on board. $13,000 sounds pretty reasonable. Like any used boat you are considering buying, be sure to really check it over. "Value" boat or not, how the previous owner took care of it makes all the difference.

Ditto what merc04 says, I used to work for a finance company. (about 30 years ago) I was collection manager. You know what that means, I got to call everyone that was late on their payments. Not a fun job. I lasted about 6 months. One of the duties I had was to repo stuff. The stuff I brought in was generally in less than prime condition. Check it out good, but you can get some really good deals if your careful. Mark.

I looked at Tahoe boats last year. The two dealers I went to did not know squat about the boats or the motors in them. I believe they just would rather sell and deal with tracker boats.

Anyway, I looked closely at the quality and saw many imperfections in the mouldings and latches. End result - I chose a different brand. I was looking at the deck style.

My main things to remember are - does it float, run and fit you main use. Otherwords a "value" fishing boat is better with a merc than a luxury with a volvo. If you need fancy extra crap then get a big name high dollar line.

Good luck and do not be afraid to go for it. If there is something wrong I am sure you could still get your money's worth out of reselling it. Check NADA guide first.
