I am trying to change out my water pump on a 2003 tracker pro 50hp. I placed the linkage in forward, removed all the bolts and the lower unit only dropped about 2 inches. 
I'm thinking i need to do something with the shift rod but i dont know for sure what to do or how to do it. I see what appears to be a lock nut and another nut but im not sure if i need to mess with these or not. I ordered a manual but it hasnt arrived as yet. I did this once before on an older model mercury but it didnt have the linkage rod. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance
