I have a 2003 VMAX 225 ox66. I just replaced the water pump because I had gotten several overheat alarms while idling. It is still giving me the alarm while idling. The engine runs fine at top speed, there is a good discharge stream, water pressure is <5 at idle. Any suggestions?

check the pressure control valve, remove the valve and grommet, clean the valve pocket and install a new grommet. its the normal culprit for idle speed overheats.

Thanks, I just took it to a dealer and they said they cleaned grit out of the bypass valve. Is that the same as what you said?

Yes it is the same valve, different terminology.
