Hello... Was wondering if anyone here had experienced this problem. My father has a 2003 Yamaha 115HP 4 Stroke motor. When he slows down and goes into either neutral or reverse the motor kills. Then you start it up and go to reverse it kills. Replaced the computer, reset everything, new wiring harness. You drive down the river and then slow it down and go into reverse and it dies or you go into reverse it dies there also. Neutral switch has been replaced also. If anyone has any experience like this or suggestions could you please drop me a line
at: skids1@fiai.net

I wish I could help. My father has the same motor a 00 or 01 and does/did the same thing. He said it hasn't been happening recently. Nothing was changed with the motor, it was looked at a couple of times underwarranty and they found nothing wrong.

We can't figure it out, the only change recently is where he buys his fuel and the new fuel is ethanol blended. I doubt the fuel was the problem, it's just the only thing that we can think of that has changed. Good Luck

Great motor otherwise.

Do you have a good water separating filter on the engine?

check your cable adjustment and disconnect the neutral switch and see if it is any different. perhaps it is also idle adjustment, i would go through a link and sync, resetting tpi(throttle position indicator) and start from there.
does it restart right away or is there a rest period?

hello
sounds like the shift cut out switch or cables are mis-adjusted. or you are shifting to slow. the cut out switch is supposed to scatter spark when shifting to allow the clutch to withdraw from the gear.
good luck and keep posting
