My Yamaha 150 2 stroke at idle every 5 seconds gives a back fire or repeated stutter. When accelerated it runs better. The one tell tale sign of something wrong is the port side middle cylinder's spark plug shows no carbon/oil/or use. I did put a timing light on the spark plug wires to check for sparks while idling and all showed spark. All the other spark plugs showed the usual black oil and were wet. This middle spark plug showed a bit of unused fuel/oil but nothing like the other 5 plugs. Any insight would be helpful. I was leaning towards the middle carb. I am waiting for my manual to come for better insight. Next move will be a diag. from a mechanic (trying to avoid). Thanks.

post the full model number off the port bracket so we know what we're dealing with.

Re: 2003 Yamaha 150 v6 2 stroke Rough idle

I also have a Yamaha ProV 150. I've never had any problems with this engine from day one (new) until this spring. My last fishing trip...March 27 was a disaster with the motor running real rough. Couldn't get it to idle at 750 rpm. It would sneeze, cough, sputter...doing it all. It also wouldn't run at full throttle, as thought it was running on 3/4 cylinders.

Brought the rig home and did a complete carburetor rebuild.. needle seats, jets, and gaskets... the whole ball of wax as they say. I bought two gallons carburetor cleaner, and removed all the parts in each carb. Put each carb/upper and lower bodies and parts into separate metal coffee cans and soaked them for 24 hours. Started on the lower carb first and rebuild/install...middle one next and the top one last. Also install six new spark plugs, checked all six coils, and each cylinder compression.

Today, I went to the lake. It started on third crank and when it warmed up it idled perfectly. I ran up the lake several miles at 5500 rpms. It performed as though it was brand new out of the carton.
