Just got this motor. it seems to run pretty good. it was a little cold natured and shut off on me multiple times backing off the trailer and starting from a dead stop..but then seemed to do better. It got to wide open pretty fast and was up to over 6K RPMS, what is the highest desired RPM range for this motor, it has a aluminum prop which I will replace with a SS one, but need to know the prime RPM range at WOT. I use synthetic oil in all my cars, I would prefere to use it in this motor if it is a good thing to do...not sure. So what is the best motor oil to this engine.

Thanks Sparkie

Here ya go..I have a pair of them and since long out of warranty, I have used synthetic. Here is a link to another site where I posted a complete tune-up. Something anyone with a few tools should be capable of doing...

WOT for that motor is right at 6k..you should see that with a very light load in the boat. If tank is full, full load and still up that high, you need to change that prop....

I ran motor out today...noticed it looked like it was too low in the water...motor is in the bottom holes and still too low. Looks like they put a 25" motor on a 20" transom. I have a jack plate and will use it to get the motor up another 3" or so. I had 3 adults, 2 kids and a full tank of gas, cooler with drinks and got it up to around 5800 RPMs. I assume I will gain several hundred RPMs at least when I jack the motor up. I do not understand how this joker used this boat like this for 7 years. It did get up to around 35, just guessing though forgot my handheld GPS.
