I realize i've lost all the pros on this post but for anyone that cares, the used fuel pump fixed the problem.

Yes and I kinda still think that this simple little fuel pump is engineered "on the edge". The operating system has to be "perfect" or it will give performance problems. Maybe even in some scenarios, an elimination of a coupling, or raising up of the fuel tank to a higher level will correct the starvation. Thanks and best regards, Tim

Yes, the 12' hose may have been too much for the original pump which had a somewhat "stretched out" diaphragm. The used pump I put on now seems to handle the 12' fuel line (5/16") ok. Also should note that the fuel connector couplings that I used are all OMC which may be a bit more restrictive than the Yamaha/Merc design.
