2004 Yamaha VMax 200 3.1 Trim switch replacement in Throttle Question

Hi, I am getting ready to try and replace the trim switch in the throttle handle of my 6X3 control box for the above mentioned motor. I saw a previous post for an older model and wanted to see if anyone has done this recently. It seems like it should be pretty simple but before I get into it and screw something up I thought I woud ask the question. I did find the correct part and have ordered it.

1. How do you take the trottle handle off? remove the rubber cover? do you just pry it out or is there some other technique?
2. Do you have to put the trottle in a difffernt posistion to get at any set screws?
3. What type of wiriing does it take to put in the new switch? Soddering?.....
4. Anything else anyone can think of that I am not thinking of?

This boat is located 400 miles away right now so I want to prepare everything so I can work on it when I get there and hopefully knock it out quickley and get right on the water.

Any help would be most appreciated.

I have no idea if mine is the same, an 01 150 OX66, but here is what I remember.

1. Rubber cover just pops off. Gives you access to one screw to remove the entire throttle assembly. Once that is removed, you will see an access plate to remove on the back side of the handle, pop off gently. Then a screw holding the trim switch in place. I've done this twice, and my memory may be a bit foggy on the exact procedure, but I think it's close.

Now, about the switch. Mine is simply a stainless rocker on a spring. I cleaned the contacts and it worked. Caution. The rocker is small, easily lost.

Thanks A lot.....I will try it and see what is up......another friend of mine had a similiar problem and found that the insulation on one of the wires had been catching on something and was frayed......a little electrical tape and it has been fine ever since........instructions are very helpful....thanks again.
