I have read a little about this and checked my oil today after about 25 hours since my yamaha dealer changed the oil. It is about an inch above the full mark on the dipstick. Still looks clean and doesn't smell like gas but I am not sure since this boating thing is new ground for me. Any suggestions on eliminating this problem?? Do I leave the motor straight up and down and not tilted etc. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance!!

you need to bring the engine to about half tilt or so for a few min then tilt it back to level. make sure you remove the dipstick and reinsert to check.
how much low speed vs high speed running do you do?
one of the biggest making oil issues we have is excessive operation below about 4000.
over propping/lugging an EFI will cause it to make oil as well. and occasionally there is an actual problem. note it with your dealer.

Re: 2005 F150 making oil???

Thanks, I changed the oil on it today. I do run it below 4000 RPM almost all the time as it is on my 22 foot tri-pontoon boat. I have 2 SS props for it, one a Yamaha 15.25 X 15 that will turn past 6000 RPM with 12 folks on board. My other is a Ballistic 14.75 X 17 with an aggressive cup on it that will only turns 5500 with 3 people and 5300 with a full load. I am thinking of having the Yamaha prop cupped as it is a pre saltwater series prop. Hopefully this will give it a 5700-5800 RPM at max load. I think I will try running it harder a few minutes each time I go out to minimize this problem. Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help!

Re: 2005 F150 making oil???

Hi begeberg,

This is my first time reading and posting to this site.

I had the 2004 problem F150 my 2004 F150. I found out last year after two 238 of operation and 238 hours on the computer. The tech told me that I only 5000 3 6000 between 5000 - 6000 rpm. Most of my time 1000 at idle to 1000 rpm because I do a lot of trolling with it. They told me that I needed 10 hours 5000( than 6000) between 5000 - 6000 rpm to seat the rings. I took it back last week I'm vacation and 11 I'm setting at 11 hours in the max range. My oil level is at the same mark on my dip stick when it was fresh 268 now I Im 268 hours. I'm going to watch it very close over the next two weeks because it will be used a lot on my 80 vacation 100( hit 80 - 100 hours of use). I also had the dealer document the hours on a work order and had them state that they believe the motor to be broke in. I wanted this just in case the level is higher and some additional work needed to warranty done after the warrenty goes off next spring. I 3000 run 4000 between 3000 - 4000 rpm for fuel economy reasons.

Good Luck :)
