I don't recommend playing with anything on an engine, if it is out of spec, then adjust it to the proper spec.
Engine RPM versus speed is a tricky subject.
Is the engine trimmed to the boat properly?
The engine might have come with the prop you are running, but because of boat size and weight it might be necessary to change the prop size for proper RPM.
A two cycle developes horsepower by RPM, if you are not turning the recommended RPM, you will not develope the horse power that the engine is rated at.

Thanks....I have a 16.5 Grumman center console with all my gear and me......its pushing 1600 lbs. I need suggestions pls, this prop selection has gotten my head spinning.
