It starts relatively well when cold. No throttle pumps, 2-3 seconds of cranking and it'll fire up. It's a little rough at idle at first, but the increased cold start idle helps it stay running until things warm up and everything smoothes out.
Can put it in gear right away to back it off of the trailer and it does not stall.
Once up to temp, I can shut it off for a few minutes and the restart is good.
However, if I shut it off and leave it off a little longer, to the point where the engine is "warm", not cold or hot, it cranks a little longer and has a rough and shaky idle for a few minutes until temps come back up.
It feels like it makes full power and is able to reach the 4800 WOT and just a tick under 40 MPH in an 06 Sea Ray 185 Sport if I trim it just right.
Pulled the TKS module today and it slid right out with no binding. Both the brass piston and carb bore look much cleaner than I expected. Connected the solenoid to a 12v source, and it moves the correct distance and in the correct abount of time.
The only thing I noticed with the solenoid is that as it was extending, it wasn't perfectly smooth. I have it sitting on my wooden desk and every 15-20 seconds, as it moved slightly, I could hear a slight "pop", as if there was a slight bind and then the force behind it made the piston to break through the bind and extend. If I held my fingers on it, I could feel it when it happened. It was similar when retracting back in. Not sure if this is normal as it is my first boat with TKS.
Does the above sound like the TKS is working properly, and it's in need of a carb rebuild? All of the ignition parts are new.
