I'm wondering if anyone can provide me some advice on my 9.9 I just bought last Friday. Here it goes;

I took it out on Saturday and its running perfect. Starts on half a pull. Ran perfect for most of the dsy On way back to ramp I'm running it wide open and all of a sudden it slows down with me still having the throttle all the way engaged. I turn the throttle back a little and it shuts down. Can't get it to fire back up.

Sunday, I put some mufflers on it in the driveway and it fires up? Defenitly not as easy before the problem started but it fires. I decide to put it in the water and to run it and the below you tube link is what happens. It starts but when I'm neutral with the throttle engaged it not revving hardly.

Any thoughts? I use non ethanol fuel. Thank you in advance!

Sounds like it its running on one cylinder. Do a cylinder drop test on it.

Is it a 2 stroke or 4 stroke?It does seem to be on one cylinder.
Unhook and ground one plug wire at a time and ground.See if it will start and run.(pull the plugs and note the condition of each)

Or with engine running use a pair of insulated pliers and take one plug wire off at the time; if the plug is not firing it won't make a difference in the running; if the plug is firing you'll hear a difference and the engine will likely just quit running, that's the good cylinder and the other is the one with no spark. Could be bad plug, bad spark wire, bad coil or bad power pack. You can go to cdielectronicsdot com and get test instructions for testing components. Good luck

Thanks fellas. I tested it and it was running on only one cylinder. Took it to a mechanic and it was blowing air out the carb which leads him to believe a reed broke and got sucked in. I can't believe it! I paid a premium for this motor because of the low hours and this happens... hope nothing is damaged..

Another vote for only running on one cylinder as it should not be vibrating as much as the video shows.

Let us know what the mechanic finds.
