My boss has 10,000 miles on his new truck. I was walking by it yesterday morning and noticed the inside of his drivers side front tire is worn almost to the cord! So with that going on with his new truck, I thought I would check my new van. My tires are running perfect. I then noticed his rear tires are almost worn thru the center of the tread (did the penny test). What is going on here, bad tires, bad factory alignment, or dog tracking goin on? I guess that is why I hate to invest in buying a new Chevy. Just one of many horror stories of new GM vehicles.

He has it scheduled to go into the dealer next week. He is hoping it is under warranty.

tires worn in the center are over inflated, on the side would be alignment

I'll have the boss pull the paperwork on the oil change that he has done. They check the air pressure and post it on the bill. I'll do my own check on the air pressure as well. He is by the book kinda guy, so I don't think he is having them over inflated.

By the amount of wear on the front tire, I would say it has been out since it was off the truck at the dealer. Boss says it doesn't pull to the left or right and that it goes straight down the road.

Come on April, I want to get my snow dogs off the back to run my street tires!

So far, I still like my Chevy van :D

Well, I checked his air pressure in the rear tires. Max pressure on the tire is 44lbs. He has 36 lbs. So they are not overinflated. When running my hand over the tread surface, I can feel a slight feathering on the tread. Usually on the rear tires, the surface feels smooth as you run you and back and forth. Right now, it is smooth one way, and then when you pull your hand back, you can feel the edges catching on your hand. Just doesn't sound right for a brand new truck with 10K miles on it.

I told him that I need to follow him down the road to see if it is dog tracking. That is the only logical explanation for the rear tires wearing. Weird to say the least.......

It's under warranty.... it may need a good old 4 wheel alignment.

What suspension does he have? The feathering may be from running empty with heavy duty shocks or trying out the horsepower and spinning the tires. OEM tires rarely make the 30K mark.

It all does not sound normal.

What is the model of the truck? The Colorados have been doing strange things to front tires.
Alignment was off from the factory. Its an easy fix at the dealer.

Mine has not had the tire issue but I had 7 things wrong with the truck when I got it.

All fixed BTW under warrantee.

There were 3 with the 03 Ranger Super Cab.

1 With the new 05 Dodge Grand Caravan.

4 with the 03 Kia Sedona.

Yes we like new vehicles every 2-5 years.

Believe me if there is anything wrong I will find it in a week of driving. To bad it never shows on the test drive.

I think the model is a Z71. It has all the bells/whistles and fancy interior. Lemon keeps coming to mind on this truck. The bad thing that really stinks is that this is his 3rd Chevy truck. In the past he was always handed down his trucks from the owner/operator of the business. The owner/operator gets a new truck every 2 years.

2 years ago, the owner/operator bought a Dodge. He decided to keep it for another 2 years. So that is why my boss got a brand new truck this past year. Sad think is that the previous trucks all had engine/alignment problems from the start as well.

Thanks to the warranty it will probably be taken care of. But for heavens sake, its a new vehicle and there shouldn't have been anything wrong with it. That is precisely why a lot of people are buying foreign vehicles. With GM having problems with staying in business, they sure don't need to be producing vehicles that are like my boss's truck.
