New to the site, great info..........have a quick question regarding the 2007 90hp E-Tec,(just bought one), does it have a "chip" in the EMM that adds more fuel/oil for the 1st "X" number of hours, if so how for how many hours ? Thanks,
Pete:)

don't know enough about them, ask the dealer about break in. i do know that the Vro engines did not know it was being broken in, and you had to add oil to the gas during the breakin. read the owners manual.

Re: 2007 90hp E-Tec

e-tecs do not need to be broken in.

if it injects extra oil i doubt it.

the cylinderwalls are not you regular steel sleeve.
thats the reason i think it doesnt need break in to seat the rings, and prevent glazing off the cylinder walls.

the injectors are also lubricated with the oil.

etecs do still burn some oil but absolutely not as much as the old 2 stroke.

so keep an eye on the oil resevoir.

good luck with your E-tec.
wish i had one to play with.

I have read the manual.............I realize the E-Tecs don't have to be broken in the "conventional way",you can hammer them wot right out of the box............I read on here somewhere(can't find where) about the EMM adding extra oil/fuel for the 1st "x" number of hours, just was wondering if anyone can enlighten me on the topic,
Pete :)

I have a 40hp and dealer said it would double oil for the first 10 hours at 2500 rpm or higher. I understood that to mean when you were under 2500 those minutes do not count.

The EMM adds extra oil for a designated break-in period of time. When the computer is hooked up to it, it'll tell the tech if the engine has completed this time or not. That's all we know when we hook up to it. At any point early-on, you can make the determination to use regular TC-W3, or go for the synthetic which uses far less oil--but that change has to be made by the computer.

Re: 2007 90hp E-Tec

The tech who set my 50 hp Etec up told me it doubled the oil for the first six hours above 2500 rpms. I got mine in March '05 and I still have almost half of my original gallon of XD-100 left. I do troll more than anything else which really keeps the oil usage down.

Edit: Since my post I just refilled the oil res and it's more like almost 1/4 gallon left. I have about 130 hrs on the motor but that is a guess (not an emm read) based on emm read of last November.

Re: 2007 90hp E-Tec

Hi there. I am having my boat repowered with a 90 e-tec as well . They told me that the computer will automatically send more oil for the first 5 hrs. I haven't get my boat back yet ...and sure I can't wait till i try this e tecs out. How do u like yours so far..what kind of prop did you put on it. Is it aluminum os Ssteel....whats teh adv/dis of a 3 blade vs/ a 4 blade propeller?.. d o u know?..

Also i read /heard people saying that their e tec ,after a few months , are even quiter and smoother....

Please let us know of your e etc experience, Thank you.
Abraham.

Re: 2007 90hp E-Tec

The late model E-TECs add extra oil during the first 2 hours of running above 2500 rpm.

Earlier E-TECs had a 5 or 10 hour initial oil program in them for rpms above 2500, depending on year and model.

Seahorse5 is this a fact:

<<The late model E-TECs add extra oil during the first 2 hours of running above 2500 rpm.

If so then Im wondering why my sales rep said the first 5 hrs, I dont want to thnik they are giving me a new 2004 0r 2005 instead of a 2007 model....

so a 2007 model only adds extra oil the first two hrs above 25oo rpm uh!! Thank you for that information and how would I know 2h rs from 5 or 10 hrs,,,,is there any way u can tell? Thanks again.

After you run the boat for at least 2 hours above 2000-2500 rpm, ask your dealer to hook it up to his laptop and diagnostic software. On the screen it will then tell you that the "break in " oil rpm and time period has been completed.

Re: 2007 90hp E-Tec

I live in eastern Canada,Nova Scotia to be exact, I bought a Campion Bowrider boat, made in B.C.........It is a 16.5' pleasure boat, about 960lbs,kevlar hull etc..............I have a 17" pitch (aluminum) prop on now, the tech who set-up the boat/motor said he showed 5460rpm's at wot & trimmed out, all I've seen is 5100-5200 rpm trimmed out............It's showing 46-48mph on the speedo, have to try the gps to see actual speed............Going to wait until I burn a couple more tanks of fuel through her, then mabe try a few diff. prop combo's to see the difference............:)

A 15" pitch prop should give you better performance and a higher rpm closer to max. A stainless steel prop would give you more speed than an aluminum one.

Thanks for the info Sea-Horse.............That's what I was thinking(15"), If you keep the same pitch but decrease the diameter, will that raise your rpm as well, but will it take away top-end speed?

Re: 2007 90hp E-Tec

One more question, how does the speedo work on these engines ? There is no little wheel to catch the water as you see on some fish finders.......Is it measuring directly from the engine somehow?

Re: 2007 90hp E-Tec

Is this the Campion 485? If so I have the same boat and motor combo. but a 2004. I do not get 46-48 MPH only about 40, but barely at the same RPM. I was expecting the speed you are getting and a better hole shot.
It almost confirms my belief that I have 75 instead.

I'm running a pirhana prop now and am happy with it. This allowed me to play with pitch and diameter, with co-opertion with my dealer.(for the prop).

How high is your motor mounted? And do you have any problems with cavitation?

Going back up to the cottage in a couple weeks, will let you know the exact pitch and dia. I'm running, and will try to get a GPS reading for WOT.
