I have a 2007 90HP Optimax motor on a 180F Angler CC boat. the temp gauge is the older analog style. From the start the temp gauge never moved. i complained to the dealer, and they told me this was normal, that the engine ran cool and didn't show up on the gauge until it got hot. That sounded strange to me but as I'm fairly new to boats and i had it on record in case something happenned i let it go.
this past weekend there was a huge amount of seaweed in the bay where i live and the overheat warning in the ignition switch went off twice. the gauge never moved.
I called Angler and they said it definately should have been showing the temp. but did say that the gauge is not all that sensitive.
I have an appointment with my dealer next week and they agreed to replace whatever needs to be replaced to fix it, but i have another question.
The mercury site talks about using smart gauges for this engine. I have all analog. Are these gauges better, and if so are they available? i looked around but could not find any for sale.
I'd rather not ask my dealer about this until I have some good information.
Sorry for the long post!
Mike
