Is this an MPI or tks then ? I don’t think the mpi has any such sensor on the T stat. Pretty sure the tks has one for the tks system though ??

Depending on serial numbers, the MPI/EFI/TKS will have the same sensor with Yellow and Black wires. The sensor uses a Black ground wire to provide the ground side of the sensor. This is done so there is no issue if someone reinstalls the thermostat gasket without the brass rivets which is needed for the gauge sensor grounding.

this is the TKS type carb
I have not found a single wiring diagram that fits this engine. The one in the #41 manual is the closest but it is not the same either! It covers the TKS system.
I'm going to go with what you did ralphy670 and clean those connections!
I found 3 temp sensors/senders. One of them works with the TKS system I think,
it is a switch and opens/closes around 125 F. This one is in the intake manifold.
The one with the black and yellow wire which is in the side of the thermostat housing varies between 2000 ohms at room temp to ~ 200 ohms at boiling (212 F). The black wire goes to good ground.
the other one is for the gauge. I didn't take it out to test it. It reads about 600 ohms ambient temp.
I have good ground between the tstat housing and ground.
I thank all of yall for your responses! This was about to kick my butt......I am going to clean connectors check wiring etc and hope that quiets the spurious alarms!!!
thanks again

To chime in, I too have had a spurious (excellent description, by the way) alarm on my 2006 4.3l tks mercruiser. I chose to just throw parts at it, as I have no maintenance records for this boat and figured that replacing components wouldn't hurt, although some might consider it a waste of money. Fair enough. I replaced the oil pressure sender and switch, thermostat, water temperature sender and switch, and gear lube reservoir. Still got the random, intermittent alarm. What solved it for me was cleaning, dielectric greasing and reattaching the 9 pin connection where the main wiring harness joins the engine. A mechanic friend of mine had mentioned that the pins inside this connection were split down the middle, and the hose clamp that is around the shroud needed to be sufficiently tight to ensure a good connection. 30 hours of operation later and not a single peep from the alarm other than the initial tone prior to starting when the key is switched to on, which I understand is normal operation, as oil pressure is nonexistent at this point, and Mercruiser manual indicates this is to show alarm is operational. Just my .02.

Well I put 4.5 hours on it yesterday and had no spurious alarms. So maybe the cleaning of the connector was the problem!
thanks for the replies from everyone!
