okay so I've tried everything to figure this out and I just am not getting it. I understand in order to check the timing on the boat, I need to do something to a purple/white wire coming from the distributor in order to put the engine into base timing mode (apparently I am supposed to do this for the idle mixture adjustment too and may explain why i was having issues with. it.). I can not figure out for the life of me how to do this, I just am not getting what is meant by this. The best explanation I've found is located at
https://www.perfprotech.com/blog/art...-engine-timing but I just cannot wrap my head around "3. Using a jumper wire, connect the ignition system timing lead (PUR/WHT wire) to a good engine ground (-). This locks the ignition module into the “Base Timing Mode”." When researching how to do this I've seen people mention a 12g wire or even a paper clip. Is there like a connector or something I just create a loop with either a 12g wire or paper clip? I guess the reason I am not comprehending this if this is the case is because of the "...to a good engine ground (-)..."
For reference, in case you happen to look at the link above, I am following the V6/V8 carbureted engines instructions
Perhaps someone could show me a picture or something of what I am supposed to do?
