Greetings all. Upgraded to a newer motor. 2008 Mercury 50ELPTO (2-stroke). To date my newest motor was a 1986 Mercury 90HP Inline 6. Right now I don't have any gauges on my boat. I have an analog OMC tach with pole settings on the back. Ironic it's a OMC tach but instructions say it works with Mercury. Anyway, I have the 14 pin engine harness and there's an additional accessory harness coming out of the control box that has a black/purple connector and 5 other wires. Unfortunately I don't have a good wiring diagram to label the wire functions. I have no idea what any of them are for. I checked other threads for this info but came up empty. I bought a SELOC subscription today but think Im going to ask for a refund. Wiring diagrams didn't include my control box. For starters my questions are this?
1 - What are my gauge options? Can I use my analog tach? If so what wiring harness do I need. I looked on ebay a little bit and there appear to be a number of options.
2 - What diagnostic functions are available on this motor? Low oil Reservoir buzzer? Overheating buzzer? I want to have those working. I've heard that there can be a buzzer inside the control box? I haven't connected everything up yet to see if I get any beeps.
3 - Smartcraft... Does this engine support Smartcraft gauges? If so what would I need to make that system work?
Thanks in advance for your time and knowledge. If anyone has a good wiring schematic that would be great!
