Re: 2050 Bayliner restoration have to do this one and do it right.

how what a nightmere, tonight we got a huge thunderstrom, with golf ball size hail.
I had a close eye on boat during storm, then watched as boat cover ripped from the hail pounding doun on it.
so i ran out to boat and held rip closed with my hand. wife ran to walgreens and got a emercency thread and neadle kit
during storm that lasted 2 hrs with large hail i sowed up rip in cover- I got a case of hypothemai but managed to keep water out of the boat, I do have some glass on rear of deck and bilge done so their was no damage, but their was major potential for water in my new wood if i hadnt seen cover rip...... and acted

This is were Im at with boat. Today June 8th I think...
Step to cabin is in.
Blocks for captain seats are glued doun.
Transom plate is dry fitted Seams ok.....
More csm comes in tuesday - My plan is to work late on her this week, to get the deck and ski locker glassed in.
So she would be safe if I do happen to get water in her- My last cover is ripped to shreads from recent storms.
ps dont buy the cheap covers - mine lasted 6 mounths . I am getting better luck with tarps they juszt dont fit as good...

Been a little crazy for this early in the year.

Funny. I did the same thing when I was restoring mine. My wife thought I was crazy. She couldn't understand why I cared so much about that old boat when I would never have done the same for the newer ones I used to own.

MX,

Where you at in Colorado?

My buddy (A C.S.F.D driver) ran calls all night in the East part of Springs last Wednesday night, showed me pictures of the piles (over 8' tall)...they pumped 2 basements for people too. Crazy!

Ironically, we (my family and 3 other families, to include the FF mentioned above) were camping/boating at Horsetooth this past weekend and as we were beached and playing in the water Saturday my wife asked if that was a "fire plume or clouds"...unsure of how far, we loaded everyone in the boats and headed out to take a look...luckily for us it was about 15 miles NW of us...I understand they cleared the reservoir today? I know the forest helicopters are getting water from Horsetooth Res! 39,500 acres so far, at noonish on Saturday it was 25 acres!

We live in C/S as well (Westside), if you're ever out at Pueblo and see a red sparkling Baja boat, chances are real good it's me..come on up and say "hi" I'll throw you a beer!

Like to see your BL when all finished!

BTW, my grandfather had the exact same boat! I remember the day he bought it and brought it home! Did a lot of fishing off that thing!

I maneged to get most of my goal acomplishished this weekend -the deck and drains are all glassed in for the most part.. and watar proofed.....
I managed to do this with all with the wild fires going one is only abot 10 miles away, and man it was hot
well over 100 deg. at the boat- I opened the hatch and set up the leaf blower to keep the air moving and as cool as posible
also was able to repack he wheal bearings and clean up the trailer brakes today....

We were in Tacoma, Washington (more specifically Lakewood), his was either a '79 or '80...same colors, same cuddy layout, pretty sure same size? Doubt it's the same...ironically my little cousin (he's 32 now) climbed in the boat at my grandparents and went to town with a filleting knife, cut the seats all up, climbed out and cut garden hose...he was under 2 years old if I remember correctly(born in '79)? His had the 305 mercruiser (probably Alpha drive?) had it up to 1984-85 them sold it as my grandmother passed away...I digress! Let me know when you go out for her maiden re-voyage...

Cheers,

~Brett

Thanks for the shout, I once was a fast guy.... Just local stuff won a pro tittle in 2006 again just local stuff...
Never beeen fast enough to compeate with the national big dogs.. The name came from - my car I had a mustang cobra, when I was racing alot... mxcobra seamed to be avaliblle for everything I needed a name for online so I went with it. mxcobra@yahoo would be my email it just works! As far as the roller trailer. I was well into restore before I heard somthing bout that, by then It was to late...
So it had to be - it is what it is , The boat hasnt been off the trailer scince 1991 , I havent noticed any problems but again I guess time will tell..... Say I did use boat stands thats only 3 points of suport Im thinking evan with the roller trailer there is more suport than that..
