Here's the real captain of the ship...

This is where my house will sit about 5 months at which point I will be working on this boat non-stop.

Pictures of the rot between the fiberglass layers of the cap. I'm tempted to just craft my own cap onto this baby as I am tempted to open the bow or expand it for a cuddy cabin - haven't decided yet. I still have quite a bit of time

What size engine?

What size engine?

My cousin runs a mechanic's shop and is my regular mechanic. He mentioned that he may be able to get me an engine to put in the boat at no cost. What does everyone recommend?

It used to have a Chrysler 318 at 225 hp. Would a V6 with the same hp work fine? I'm also tempted to go diesel.

I've heard about marine conversions on engines and looked around briefly on the forums - but didn't find too many details. What is involved in a marine conversion with closed freshwater cooling?

I got the title and registration transferred today. The trailer I am going to touch up and sell to fund the materials to build a new one. Technically, it is too small for the boat.

I am expecting to drop at minimum $5k into this baby, even with my connections. I may have a free engine - but it would have to be marinized. I want to do it right.

That is also why I'm estimating a 3 year build, to spread the budget and different parts of the project out. Year 1 - structural, deck and body (including a beautiful new exterior paint job - ugh this one is so 70's!!); year 2 engine, mechanics and electrical; year 3 trailer, cosmetics, and getting wet.

That's all the extended game plan - if I finish sooner, great!!!

;) OK, shall we start a pool on this "timeline" thing ? I'm thinking opening season 2011 ! ;)

Haha! I wish opening of 2011!!

But... We're building a house this summer and that will set my boat rebuild behind a minimum of 6 months.
