What outdrive is on the boat? Probably an Alpha I Gen I. You really dont want more than 300 horsepower attached to this drive. Merc put a 454 up to an alpha for just one year in 1989 and boy did their warranty department hate the engineering and production departments. The Alpha drive is a "pleasure duty outdrive". Stick with a 5.7L, dont blow up your drive. You could use one of these: 357 MAG Alpha Engine Package or even one of these: 350 MAG Alpha MPI
