I have a 1989 225 Johnson. Several weeks ago I went to start it, long story a little shorter, pulled the harness plug, jumped the solenoid, still no spark. Fiddled with the neutral safety switch on the engine and it started. It started okay again at the ramp, then ran the engine for about an hour and then shut it down for several hours. It seemed to take longer to start but it finally did start. And it started okay when I flushed it.
Same thing again yesterday. No spark with harness disconnected. It seems this problem is intermittent. I've researched and read several different discriptions of the neutral safety switch.
How do I disconnect it and take it out of the loop for troubleshooting procedures? I do have a factory manual but couldn't find anything in there regarding that switch.
