I have a 2003 OX66 225 vmax it is a tiller motor. i just had a new water pump installed
on the motor and the first time i took it out it runs fine when you are
on plane as soon as you come down off plane and start to idle around the alarm goes off it is a constant alarm if you turn it off and just turn key to on position it still goes off let it sit a few minutes and it is fine

I took it back to the shop and they said the trim indicater swich under the
motor was broke they replaced it and i am still having the same problem

I have never had a problem with it till they changed out the water pump

it only has under 300 hours on it

any help would be greatly apprecated

I am pulling my hair out

Thanks
Chris

Re: 225 vmax alarm

Assuming they installed the water pump correctly, (a complete pump and not just the impeller), I would suspect the pressure relief valve had something stuck in it and it's open all the time....

Re: 225 vmax alarm

okay i just went and picked it up from the shop

when they did the water pump the first time they did everything
housing,impeller,plate

when i picked it up to today there was no paper work done so it
leads me to believe the plate may have been put in wrong or it was the wrong kit they
said they replaced the t-stat and the pr valves they said there was pebbles
in there but the motor has never not peeded i will see what happens when i take it out saturday

thank you for you response

Re: 225 vmax alarm

If it had a pebble stuck in the pr valve, it would still pee. The problem comes when at idle and the pr valve is stuck open, water exits the exhaust instead of circulating to the top cylinders, resulting in an overheat. At speed, there's enough pressure for the water to reach the top, and the alarm will shut off.

Re: 225 vmax alarm

post a full model number.
yamaha never made a tiller version of the Vmax 225.
trim indicator wont set any alarm horns, ever.
cannot install the plate incorrectly, simply cannot.
from your description,I would lean towards an oil level alarm due to a clogged remote filter.
if the pressure control valve was sticking, and they do, the longer you let it idle the hotter it gets and the alarm wont shut off at low speeds.

Re: 225 vmax alarm

I guess my question is why has it never went off before not until
after i had them do them water pump? they did say to watch the tell tale
hole to make sure it continues to pee

They never showed me where the Pr is located is there a diagram some where
i can look at
