Hi Guys,
Still fiddling with a sneeze/stall situation on this engine. I can only get down there once or twice a week as boat is 90 miles away.
After the boat sits all week, I go down to start it....starts fine, always on the
first crank. She would always idle high for a minute or two then settle down to a nice in-spec idle.
For the last month or two, I'd start it and it still starts on the first crank.
The idle rpms are low and it sounds "weird", like it's bogging or struggling to stay running, sneezes once or twice, There is always one sneeze that results in a stall within the first minute, and she'll start right back up again.
From that point on, she runs like a clock.
Seems once it's warmed up, it's fine. Reaches wide open throttle fine, mid range is fine...
All regular maintence items were done in the spring, t-stats, poppit, de-carb, filters including VST, plugs, O2 sensor was cleaned 10 hours ago along with exhaust tube, TPS adjusted properly. Low pressure fuel pumps were done last year and have 100+- hours on them. When this problem first started, I began with the plugs, found 2 of them had bent tips, probably me hitting them with the cowling cover be accident. Replaced all 6 plugs, tested the caps and some were out of spec and those are new also.
Also I should mention, when fishing, if I don't start the boat to move or whatever, and we are on the hook or something for a few hours causing the engine to completely cool off, the same thing happens but once again, if it's still hot, it's fine.
I am being told by some it could be a clogged fuel injector, but wouldn't it be clogged all the time and not just during a low cold idle? Also, would it run fine, even WOT, once the engine is hot if an injector was clogged?
I have the manual for the motor and I'm becoming (slowly) more comfortable doing some stuff myself. There are probably only 3 or 4 trips left for me this year and over the winter I plan on buying the diagnostic kit/lamp for this motor. I was just hoping someone could just lend some opinions, giving me something to look at soon or next spring.
