That harness is NLA you will have to make your own. Even if you could find a used one the wire they used back then did not hold up well it will probably be in bad shape. Better off bypassing it just remove it and put a key switch in there,

A new one is available I believe but likely out of your budget.-------------It was a convenient way to install / remove motor from the boat.----Find a wiring diagram and bypass that set-up.----------Mount the solenoid inside the cowling and add a push buttom or remote switch just like models from 1990's.

I do not think they offered a charging system on the 1973 25 hp models. But I could be wrong. Also if the model number is 25R73 then it might of left the factory without electric start. I believe the model number for an electric start would be 25E73.

No Title

This is a parts breakdown from an electric start 1973 johnson and there does not appear to be a charging coil present.

1973 did not have a charging system!! The electric start was an add-on accessory, available as "remote" with switches up forward in the boat, or "standard" with a push button start where your plug-in is now located. All you need to do is remove the plug and install the push button parts.

Use a key switch that has the choke built into it. Then find a spot to run the battery cables

Back to basics. How do you plan to run this motor? Up-front remote controls, or tiller steer at the motor? Set the motor up accordingly.

Any wee yellow wires coming from under the flywheel ?-----------Any wee yellow wires going to a rectifier ?-------------Posting some pictures would make that easy to identify.

I would say no yellow wires from under the flywheel = no charging system on it at this time.

The instructions that came with your new switch are for newer motors with "new" color coding The wires on your motor are confusing because you have an accessory starter kit. So here is hoping I get this correct.

The blue and blue/white stripe wires going to the coils are the stop wires. They will lead to the two "M" terminals on the ign switch (black and black/yellow on new motors)

The small white wire on the solenoid is the start wire. It will lead to the "S" terminal on the ign switch. (yellow/red stripe on new motors)

The small red wire is the choke wire. Goes to "C" terminal on a push-to-choke ign switch--whatever color they are now.

As I said, I hope I got it all

BTW, there is no charging capability on your motor.

Ok just to clarify connect wires as u have stated the purple wires on the switch will not be used which would have been going to ignition and assy am I correct

Can these wires be tied directly into the wires in the harness that's there or would it be best to remove the harness and run wires from new switch all the way and tks a bunch oh can a charge system b put on or would it be costly
