25 HP Merc

i'm about to take possesion of a 1996 25 HP Merc O/B, i've had it checked by a mechanic and it's in really good shape. one safety concern is that the reverse locking bar is still engaged in the forward position. the mechanic told me the part is $50, and it's a 2 hour job. <br /><br />can anyone help simplify this for me so i can do it on my own?<br /><br />that $50 is Canadian by the way, i live in Toronto<br /><br />thanks 4 any input
