250 4stroke take off lower to run motor?

I am going to look at a couple of used 2006 250 4 strokes for sale by a yamaha dealer and he told me that the lower unit is off because that is how they run them.. I dont know if I should even waste my time looking at a motor if this is what the seller is telling me. Is there a reason why he would say something like that. He might of been swapping counter rotations for standard. I dont know.

So the dealer is telling you that he runs these engines without a water pump pumping water through the power head. I would stay far away from this deal. Who in their right mind would go to the trouble to pull a lower unit when they could just slide a set of ears on the motor?
