There is more than 1 motor that has had this " modification " done.-----Perhaps an obscure bulletin or dealers that took it upon themselves to try and improve the operation of these motors.-----Yes there are some dealers up our way that know what they are doing !

Thanks. I did notice some newer motors that showed it like that in the parts breakdown. But for my model it did not. I tried the motor again it was worse today. The motor was running at only 80 degrees and some times less. I took a look at the thermostat and it is stuck open.

I bought a 1970 6hp johnson from the same guy and he said it was worked on but he was never able to start it. It has a complete new ignition also. I pulled the carb and the float lost its shellac and the cork was throughout the entire carb. I cleaned it and put in a new carb kit and it fired right up. I took out the thermostat from the 6hp and tried it in the 25 and it runs not too bad. I cant get to idle down as low as thought but I will work on that in the spring. The little 6hp runs much better then the 25. This is the first time I have seen a 6hp run. Very impressive.

I have had about 10 of these 6 hp motors apart for inspection over the last few winters.----They are wonderfully simple and well engineered.----In good condition they just run very , very nice.----Better than some of the new plastic stuff.

I have done some work on the motor. New impeller, new thermostat, and new fuel pump. It starts well and idles good ,but after a minute or so it revs really high. And then it runs rough, and it spits a few times out the exhaust and dies . If I do not pump the primer bulb it will start ,but runs rough again and shortly dies. If I do pump the bulb after it dies I can feel and hear the carb bowl filling up. And it starts and runs well again for a minute. I have tried 2 other know good fuel pumps, with the same results. Also the tank and hose works fine on several other motors. Compression and spark are still good and the motor is running around 125 degrees. I have checked the carb and it is clean and has a new float. Maybe the float is upside down? Or the float needle is sticking? Thanks in advance for any help.
