I have never changed the thermostate on an outboard before and have a couple of questions. My 25hp is running cold and I suspect thermostat is stuck open. I got a thermostate and gasket, spring. All the bolts came loose without breaking any, I have removed the coverplate yet.
Does the gasket need to have a gasket sealer applied?
(like permatex aviation form-a-gasket sealant) or what.
What shoud I put on the bolts to make them easy to get out next time?
What does evinrude/johnson recommend?
(marine grease, anti-sieze compound, pipe sealer (typical water/gas pipe teflon pipe sealer in the can), or other)
I do not have manual to reference.
The bolts appear to be grade 5 steel bolts, why would they use steel bolts instead of stainless steel?
Thanks for the help
