25hp 2002 yamaha-choking off question

This is a manual start engine & usually cranks cold on the 2nd pull. However, sometimes it chokes off while idling. Then it acts like it's flooded or something. It will crank back, but it takes a while. Then, the rest of the day, 1 pull & it cranks right up.

On the other hand, if I crank it & immediately put it in gear & take off, I have no problem.

it could be carb, fuel filters, fuel lines
when was the last so called tune up?

my 30hp suzuki does the same, try fuel system treatment with your fuel and see if the condition betters ......
